Felix Armfield, Buffalo State College associate professor of history and social studies, will present the sixth lecture in the “What Price Freedom?” lecture series, “Reverend J. Edward Nash and the Michigan Street Baptist Church,” on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m. at The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, 25 Nottingham Court.

Armfield’s program will examine social and political activism in the historic Michigan Street Baptist Church through the leadership of Rev. Nash, its pastor for more than 60 years, and includes rare photographs from the J. Edward Nash House and Museum. Also contributing to the talk will be Jesse E. Nash Jr., professor emeritus of Canisius College.

The “What Price Freedom?” lecture series is part of the Centennial Celebration of the Niagara Movement in Buffalo. Also featured is “On the Road to Freedom,” a historical display documenting the African American presence in Western New York from the antebellum period to the present.

The event is free and open to the public.
