Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium Autumn Schedule

After a highly successful summer program, the Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium at Buffalo State College announces its autumn schedule for the public. Skies of the Harvest (a live presentation) will show patrons the current autumn night sky, explain why the days shorten toward December, and where to find the most notable stars and constellations. After a short break, the planetarium will then offer an additional show called, The Eye of Medusa, telling one of the most popular stories in Greek mythology. Following the programs, and weather permitting, the planetarium staff will present an opportunity to view the night sky first-hand with telescopic observation, featuring a 10" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.
On Saturday, October 27, the Buffalo State College Astronomy Club and the Buffalo State College Astronomy Club Alumni Chapter will run the Haunted Hallway in the basement of the Science Building from 6:00 - 10:00 P.M. Visitors, prepare to be frightened beyond your wildest nightmares as you attempt to navigate the dimly lit Corridor of Horrors. Special engagements of The Eye of Medusa will take place throughout the evening - for those that dare (the schedule is posted online and at the door).
The planetarium will also bring back the annual holiday presentation called Star of Wonder. This feature illustrates the astronomical and cultural origins of various holiday traditions. The show returns to the planetarium autumn lineup after much popular demand, and the staff is looking forward to presenting it in a new, live format. There will not be a scheduled Observation Hour associated with Star of Wonder.
The Skies of the Harvest and The Eye of Medusa will run on Friday evenings at 7:00 P.M. and Saturday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. beginning October 5 and continuing through November 10. Star of Wonder runs on Friday evenings at 8:00 P.M. starting November 30th, and Sunday afternoons at 2:00 P.M. during December. Please be aware that the planetarium is a dark theatre that may not be suitable for some younger children. Tickets are $5.00 per person for all events at the door, and go on sale 30 minutes before show time. Buffalo State College students with identification are free. Inquiries and advance sales for large groups can be made by contacting the planetarium office (716) 878-4911.
