Women's Basketball Falls to Rochester, 63-44

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (3-4) played host to the University of Rochester this afternoon, and the No. 2 ranked team in the nation proved to be too strong for the Bengals as it improved to 8-0 on the season with a 63-44 victory.

The Yellowjackets sprinted to a 38-12 advantage at halftime and coasted to the 19-point victory, despite shooting just 26-percent in the second half and 36-percent for the game. Buffalo State committed 23 turnovers to aid the Rochester cause.

Erika Smith (Latham/Shaker) paced the Yellowjackets with 15 points and five rebounds. Kelly Wescott (Burke/Franklin Academy) also scored in double-figures with 10 points. Megan Fish (Glenmont/Bethlehem Central) was the team's top-rebounder with six boards.

Buffalo State was led by Desi Gibson's (Rochester/Edison Tech) 13 points. Freshman Tawan Slaughter (Buffalo/Christian Central) added a career-high 12 points. Senior Monique Hanks (Liverpool/Liverpool) chipped in eight points and pulled in a career-high 14 rebounds as she moved into eighth place on the Bengals' all-time rebounding list with 503 career boards.

Rochester will visit cross-town rival RIT on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Buffalo State will also return to action this Tuesday, as it will host its local rival Medaille at 6 p.m.
