Women's Basketball Tops SUNYIT, 67-51

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (8-11/5-5) scored 14 of the final 18 points in the game in a 67-56 home victory over SUNYIT (4-14/2-7) today at the Sports Arena.

Buffalo State led 26-24 at halftime and did not relinquish the lead over the final 20 minutes. SUNYIT cut the deficit to 53-52 with 4:10 remaining, but the Bengals mounted a 14-4 run to close the game. Buffalo State scored 28 points in the paint and held a 43-32 rebounding advantage. Both teams shot 42-percent from the field for the game.

Jacey Brooks (Machias/Franklinville) scored 15 of her team-leading 16 points in the second half. Tawan Slaughter (Buffalo/Christian Central) had 14 points, and Darnika Moseley (Liverpool/Liverpool) scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Toya Parks (Brooklyn/MLK) added 10 points, and Amanda Benoit (Deerfield/Whitesboro) had seven points and 12 rebounds.

Laura Giancone (Baldwinsville/Onondaga CC) led the Wildcats with 19 points and seven boards. Katie Jenks (Severance/Adirondack CC) had 16 points, and Jessica Brownell (Olivebridge/Dutchess CC) added eight points and 12 boards.

Buffalo State will host Fredonia on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
