Women’s Hockey Clinches Playoff Berth with Duplicate Win at Oswego
OSWEGO, NY—For the second consecutive day, freshman Marissa McMullan (Haileybury, ON) scored in the third period, and Shannon Anesetti (Canonsburg, PA) pitched a shutout in goal as Buffalo State (7-11-3/5-9-2) upended host Oswego (8-14-1/3-11-0), 1-0, in an ECAC West game today at Campus Center. The win clinches the Bengals their first playoff appearance since 2003.
McMullan, who scored the lone goal 4:37 remaining in the game yesterday, tallied today 1:52 into the final frame with an assist from Mariah Fairgrieve (Ft. Erie, ON). Anesetti made 28 saves to record her sixth career shutout, as Buffalo State outshot the Lakers, 35-28
Buffalo State will make its first ECAC West playoff appearance in five years on Sat., March 1. The Bengals will be the No. 6 seed and will travel to the No. 3 seed, either Plattsburgh, RIT, Elmira or Utica.
