Women's Hockey Loses at Cortland, 4-1
Buffalo State struck first but was not able to hold on to the lead, as the Bengals were defeated, 4-1, at Cortland (9-11/4-8) in ECAC West action earlier this afternoon.
Freshman Sarah Kelly (Portland, ME/Tilton School) scored the lone goal for the Bengals off a pass from sophomore Mallory Nutting (Gardiner, ME/Gardiner Area) at 6:02 of the second period. The Red Dragons tied the game just over three minutes later. Cortland would go on to add the game-winning goal in the third period, along with two insurance markers to clinch the game. Junior goaltender Rachel Bennett (Howell,MI/Howell) made 23 saves as the Bengals were out shot 27-18.
The Bengals fall to 3-13-1 overall and 0-10 in ECAC West play. Buffalo State will return home to close out its regular season next weekend. The Bengals will host Chatham for a pair of conference games Saturday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
