Women's Hockey Skates Past Michigan State, 5-2

Jessica Thieme (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) scored three goals as the Bengals skated past Michigan State, 5-2, earlier this evening at the Buffalo State Ice Arena in an exhibition game.

Thieme opened the scoring at 14:19 into the game on a power play goal, assisted by Nicole Bennett (Fremont, CA/American) and Amanda Uschold (Rochester/Brighton). Jamie Overbeck (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) added a goal in the second period to give the Bengals a 2-0 lead. Michigan State answered back in the closing minutes of the second period to make it a one-goal game before heading into the locker room. Buffalo State came out on fire in the third. Thieme scored two goals in a 19-second span to push the score to 4-1. Michgian State answered back but it would not be enough as Leah Eyerman (Mountaintop, PA/ Wyoming Seminary) scored the fifth goal with 18-seconds left in the game.

Shannon Anesetti (Cannonsburg, PA/ Caron-McMillan) made 19 saves between the pipes for the Bengals as Buffalo State out shot Michigan State 25-21.

The second exhibition game against Michigan State will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.
