Women’s Hockey Ties Rhode Island, 1-1
BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State was unable to hold a third-period lead as it tied visiting University of Rhode Island, 1-1, in an exhibition game today at the Ice Arena.
Jackie Blanchard (Delmar, NY/ Bethlehem) opened the scoring for the Bengals 7:55 into the game with an assist from Tonya Ford (Williamsville, NY/ Williamsville East). The Rams netted the equalizer at the 6:21 mark of the third period, however.
Buffalo State outshot URI, 43-23, but was unable to score the go-ahead goal. Meredith Larsen (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) made 22 saves for the Bengals.
Buffalo State will open its official NCAA season tomorrow with home contest against Concordia (MN) at 2 p.m.
