Women's Lacrosse Clinches First-Ever SUNYAC Playoff Berth with a Win Over Oswego

Buffalo State clinched its first-ever SUNYAC playoff berth today with a 9-6 victory on the road against Oswego.

Buffalo State fell behind by one goal just 15 seconds into the game but junior Nikole Flannery (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) scored her fifth goal of the season to tie the game at one apiece. Chelsey Frail (Hilton/East Rochester) scored her first of two goals less than a minute later to put the Bengals up 2-1, a lead they would not relinquish. Leah Bernal (E. Aurora/Iroquois) scored her first of four goals at the 25:23 mark to give Buffalo State a two-goal cushion. After an Oswego goal, the Bengals would end the half with an 8-2 lead after going on a five-goal scoring spree. Oswego stormed back in the second half, scoring three-unanswered goals before Bernal netted the Bengals' final goal.

Annie Tallchief (Perrysburg/Lakeshore) and Leslie Perreault (Johnson City/Maine Endwell) each tallied a goal, while freshman Meagan Powers (Pearl River/Pearl River) added three assists to her season totals. Attacker Rachel Galus (Hamburg/Frontier) and Perreault each had an assist in the win. Freshman Katie Fels (Williamsville/Williamsville East) registered a career-best 15 saves in the net for Buffalo State.

Buffalo State will play its final regular season game on Tuesday when they travel to Alfred University for a 4:00 p.m. game. The SUNYAC Championships will be held at Cortland starting Friday, April 30.
