Women's Lacrosse Dominates Oswego, 18-2; Clinches No. 2 Spot in SUNYAC Postseason
BUFFALO, NY—Sophomore Katie Henderson (Lakeview/ Frontier) scored five goals as Buffalo State (8-3/6-1) dominated visiting Oswego (5-10/2-5), 18-2, on Senior Day in a SUNYAC contest today at Coyer Field. Henderson also set a new school record for goals in a single season with 42, eclipsing Chelsey Frail’s mark of 39 set in 2004.
Buffalo State’s seniors also came up big for the Bengals as Katie Lyons (Williamsville/ Williamsville North), Erin Silky (Liverpool/ Liverpool), Shantel Ackley (Baldwinsville/ C.W. Baker) and Ashley Parker (Watertown/ Watertown) all added to the offensive attack. Lyons had four goals, Silky scored three times, Ackley tallied two goals and four assists and Parker notched her first goal of the season. Joni Squire-Hill (Oshweken, ON/ Hagersville) had two goals, while Stephanie Georgopoulos (Port Jefferson Station/ Comsewogue) chipped in a goal and an assist. Molly Seifritz (Syracuse/ Henniger) added two helpers and Alyssa VanDurme (Oswego/ Oswego) and Jennifer Tierney (Massapequa/ Massapequa) each tallied one assist apiece.
The Bengals scored the first 11 goals of the game before the Lakers recorded their first at the 4:55 mark of the first half. After a 45-minute rain delay, the Bengals scored another seven goals to seal the win. Senior Katie Rivers (Watertown/ Watertown) made eight saves in net for Buffalo State.
Buffalo State clinched the second seed in the SUNYAC Championship and will face the No. 3 seed on May 2. The Bengals will wrap up the regular season at Fredonia on Tuesday.
