Buffalo State suffered a season ending loss to nationally-ranked Cortland today in the first round of the 2004 SUNYAC Playoffs. Buffalo State finishes the season with a 10-4 overall record, the best in the team's 10-year history. The Bengals entered their first playoff game in program history as the four seed.

The Bengals went into halftime down 7-2 against the top-seeded Red Dragons. Buffalo State's defense slowed Cortland's attack in the second half, limiting them to just three goals, but the Bengal offense couldn't overcome the six-point deficit. Sophomore Chelsey Frail (Hilton/East Rochester) scored all four Bengal goals while freshman goaltender Katie Fels (Williamsville/Williamsville East) had a solid day in net, making 11 saves in her first career playoff start. Frail's four goals were enough to propel at the top of two Buffalo State single season records. She now holds the records for goals and points in a single season, with 39 goals and 48 points.

Cortland handed the Bengal's their final loss of the regular season, an 18-6 decision at the Cortland Stadium Complex on April 23. Buffalo State defender Andrea Floriano (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) is the lone graduating senior on a squad that broke nine team and over eight individual records.
