Women's Lacrosse Finishes Regular Season with Comeback Win Over Alfred, 15-11

Buffalo State finished its 2004 regular season campaign with a 15-11 comeback victory on the road yesterday against Alfred University. The Bengals finish the regular season with a 10-3 overall record, the best in the program's ten-year history. The win marked the first time the Bengals' have defeated the Saxons in seven attempts.

Buffalo State managed only two goals in the first half as the Saxons took a 9-2 lead into halftime. The Bengals' rallied in the second half, led by sophomore Chelsey Frail (Hilton/East Rochester) who scored six goals in the second frame to spark the Buffalo State offense. Freshman Leah Bernal (E. Aurora/Iroquois) added three goals, two in the second half, to her season totals. Annie Tallchief (Perrysburg/Lakeshore) and Leslie Perreault (Johnson City/Maine Endwell) also scored three goals apiece in the win. The Bengal defense shut down the Saxon attack in the second half, led by junior Nikole Flannery (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) who had an assist, two ground balls and a caused turnover in the tilt. Freshman Katie Fels (Williamsville/Williamsville East) improved her record to 10-3 on the season with the win in net for the Bengals.

Frail is now ranked second on the Bengals' all-time scoring list with 81 points (58g-23a). She is also tied for first in two Buffalo State single-season records, goals in a season with 35, and points in a season with 44. Tallchief's 66 (53g-13a) career points has her ranked fifth on Buffalo State's all-time scoring list. Newcomers Meagan Powers (Pearl River/Pearl River) and Leslie Perreault are tied for second on the Bengals' single-season assist list with 11. Perreault's 39 points (28g-11a) this season has her ranked eighth on Buffalo State's all-time scoring list.

Buffalo State will travel to Cortland on Friday when they meet the Red Dragons in the first round of the 2004 SUNYAC playoffs. The game is set for a 2:00 p.m. start.
