Buffalo State (14-6) will leave this evening for Hartford, Conn. to play its NCAA Playoff Second Round contest at Trinity College (17-1) this Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

The Bengals extended their first-ever appearance in the NCAA postseason with an 18-10 home victory over Springfield yesterday. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in the latest national poll, qualified for the playoffs by winning the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and defeated Bridgewater State, 16-1, in its opening round game.

Senior attackers Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) and Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West, pictured) lead the Bengals into the second round. Shaddock’s 10-goal performance in the first round brought her Division III leading goal total to 106 this season, just nine shy of matching the DIII single-season record. She also has 147 points this season (seven shy of the DIII record), and ranks second in all-time in DIII career scoring with 454 points (260 goals and 194 assists). Clarkson leads the nation with 86 assists and is just two shy of tying the DIII single-season record of 88. With six assists yesterday, she also set a DIII career record for assists with 238, and her 383 points rank her tied for tenth in DIII history.

The winner of the Buffalo State/Trinity game on Saturday will meet the winner of the Messiah (16-3)/Colby (14-2) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., also at Trinity.
