Women's Lacrosse Rips Potsdam, 17-8
BUFFALO, NY—Stephanie Georgopoulos (Pt. Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) had four goals and four assists, and Buffalo State (9-3/1-3) snapped a three-game losing skid with a 17-8 victory over visiting Potsdam (3-9/0-6) today at Coyer Field.
Georgopoulos set a school record for assists in a game to lead the Bengals’ attack. Fellow freshman Katie Henderson (Lakeview/Frontier) added four goals and an assist. Leah Bernal (Marilla/Iroquois) added three goals. Shantel Ackley (Baldwinsville/CW Baker) scored twice, becoming just the third Bengal in school history to score 100 career points, bringing her total to 101. Molly Seifritz (Syracuse/Henninger) and Katie Lyons (Williamsville/Williamsville North) each had a goal and three assists, and Joni Hill (Hagersville, ON/Hagersville) and Erin Silky (Liverpool/Liverpool) added single goals.
Buffalo State scored seven goals in the final 5:31 of the first half to blow the game open and take a 10-2 lead into the intermission. Potsdam never mounted a serious threat in the final 30 minutes as the Bengals cruised to the victory. Buffalo State outshot the Bears, 28-21. Katie Rivers (Waterloo/Waterloo) made five saves in goal.
With the win, Buffalo State kept its SUNYAC playoff hopes alive. The Bengals will face another must-win game tomorrow when they host Brockport at 4 p.m.
