Women's Lacrosse Wins Fourth Straight; Overpowers Geneseo, 20-12
BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (5-2/3-0) claimed its first-ever victory in 13 attempts against Geneseo (5-2/1-1), as the Bengals overpowered the Knights, 20-12, today in a SUNYAC game at Coyer Field.
Stephanie Georgopoulos (Port Jefferson Station / Comsewogue) and Shantel Ackely (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) combined for 15 offensive points to lead the Bengals. Georgopoulos set a personal best, scoring seven goals while Ackley recorded three goals and set a new Buffalo State record for assists in a game with five helpers. Katie Henderson (Hamburg/Frontier) added four goals. Jennifer Tierney (Massapequa/Massapequa), Erin Silky (Liverpool/Liverpool) and Katie Lyons (Williamsville/Williamsville North) each scored twice and Molly Seifritz (Syracuse/Henninger) chipped in three assists.
Buffalo State scored the first three goals of the game, before Geneseo answered with three unanswered of its own. The two teams battled back and forth the rest of the first half with the Bengals taking an 11-8 lead into the first intermission. Buffalo State dominated the second half, scoring nine goals, including five markers in a seven-minute stretch.
Buffalo State held a slim 37-36 advantage in shots and recorded 30 ground balls to Geneseo’s 24. Ashley O’Brien (Lima/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made 14 saves en route to her fifth win of the season.
The Bengals will look to continue their conference winning streak when they travel to Potsdam on Saturday.
