It took six-time defending-SUNYAC Champion Oneonta extra time to finally defeat upstart Buffalo State (4-1-1/0-1), 2-1, today in the Bengals' conference opener in Oneonta.

The Red Dragons opened the scoring in the 57th minute, but Buffalo State evened the score with just 1:37 remaining when Gina Monaco (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) scored with an assist from Liz Jacobsen (Gresham, OR/Sam Barlow) to force overtime. Oneonta clinched the victory, however, scoring the winner in the 92nd minute.

Katie Melsert (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa) made 9 saves for the Bengals. The loss snapped Buffalo State's school record six-game unbeaten streak that dated back to last year's finale.

Buffalo State will visit New Paltz tomorrow for a 1 p.m. start.
