Women's Swimming and Diving Tops William Smith

Buffalo State (2-2) overcame a six-point deficit in the final relay of the meet, to defeat visiting William Smith, 125-118, today at Kissinger Pool.

The Bengals trailed 116-110 entering the final event of the meet, but Buffalo State earned first and second in the 200-yard free relay. The A-Team of Susan Stiner (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls), Sara Weinert (S. Byron/Byron-Bergen), Megan Farrell (Akron/Akron) and Sarah Garasz (Lancaster/Lancaster) touched first with a time of 1:48.95. The Bengals' B-Team, consisting of freshman Laura Pino (Sanborn/Niagara Wheatfield) and divers Nicole Rutkowski (Williamsville/Williamsville North), Amanda Dory (Amherst/Sweet Home) and Megan Stull (Victor/Victory), clinched the meet victory, finishing second in 2:01.25.

Rutkowski also won the one and three-meter diving events, defeating William Smith's 2005 NCAA Championship Qualifier Sarah Costanza. Rutkowski scored an NCAA Provisional qualifier on the one-meter (245.90), and set a new Kissinger Pool record on the three-meter (247.40).

Weinert also won two individual events, capturing the 200-yard free (2:06.21) and the 500-yard free (5:37.45).

Buffalo State will compete at the North Country Invitational in Potsdam on November 18 and 19.
