CANTON, NY--Buffalo State's women's track and field team picked up where it left off at last week's conference championships, getting off to a fast start at this weekend's NYSCTC Championships at St. Lawrence University.

The 4x200m relay team of Toya Edwards (Brooklyn/Clara Barton), Chelsea Prophet (Buffalo/daVinci), LaVonne Barfield (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) and Jameieka Price (Niagara Falls/Aviano American) headlined the day's performances, winning the State Championship, while setting a school and meet record with a time of 1:45.65. Barfield also won the long jump, leaping 5.26 meters. Candace Aaron (Coram/Longwood) placed second in the 20-lb. weight throw with a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 16.25 meters. Jenelle Orosz (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) continued her hot streak in the high jump, winning the title, clearing 1.63 meters.

The women's team leads the 15-team meet after the opening day with 38 points, one point ahead of Brockport. The men's team is currently 14th of 14 with three points. The Championship concludes tomorrow.
