Women's Volleyball Posts First Win of Season

NEW PALTZ, NY--Buffalo State (1-13) earned its first victory of the season, defeating Mt. St. Mary 3-1 today at the New Paltz Invitational. The Bengals dropped their second match of the day in straight games against Elmira.

Mt. St. Mary won the opening game, 30-19, but Buffalo State rebounded to win three straight, 30-16, 30-28 and 30-22 to pick up its first win of the season. Katelyn Grew (Lackawanna/Mt. Mercy) led the Bengals with nine kills and five aces. Tamika Neal (Fayetteville, NC/Hutch Tech) had seven kills.

Elmira topped Buffalo State in the late match, 30-17, 30-24 and 30-18. Paige Kaiser (Grand Island/Hammondsport) had 10 digs and two aces, and Ashley Ray (Grand Island/Grand Island) had five kills and five blocks.

Kaiser was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Buffalo State will travel to Geneseo next weekend for the first round of SUNYAC Pool Play.
