Two community roundtables will complete a Year of the City series held at the Buffalo State Community Academic Center (CAC) this semester.

The first, "Voices of the Arts in Education," takes place on Wednesday, March 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The second, "Voices of Community Health," is scheduled for Wednesday, April 24, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  will be scheduled for a later date according to the CAC (updated April 8, 2013). Two earlier roundtables, "Voices of Youth Leadership" and "Voices of Entrepreneurs," took place last fall.

“We had standing room only,” said Dee. “People who live, teach, and work in the neighborhood came.” The purpose of the roundtables is to share information about resources, challenges, and opportunities facing the West Side community, including the Grant Street neighborhood.

The March 20 event will include a panel featuring speakers from Buffalo Public Schools, Buffalo State, and community art leaders.

Public artist Augustina Droze, who will execute a large, community mural at the Grant Street market Lorigo’s Meating Place this summer, will also be part of the panel. The mural will celebrate the immigrant and refugee experience and facilitate the bringing together of the community and the college.

“That is part of our goal,” said Dee. “We provide direct programming and support, but we also want to increase networking throughout the community. And we want to listen as people share their strengths, experiences, and needs.”

The public and members of the Buffalo State community are invited to attend the roundtables, which are free of charge. Contact the CAC at 878-3289 to R.S.V.P.
